Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education: SMAN 7 Kendari Becomes Pilot School for Trigatra Bangun Bahasa
Kendari (ANTARA) -
The Language Development and Cultivation Agency (Badan Bahasa) of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) of the Republic of Indonesia has designated State Senior High School 7 Kendari as a pilot school for implementing Trigatra Bangun Bahasa to strengthen literacy and the character of the younger generation.
Head of the Language Agency of Kemendikdasmen RI, Hafidz Muksin, stated when met in Kendari on Friday that this designation is a concrete manifestation of the commitment to prioritise Indonesian, preserve regional languages, and master foreign languages or Trigatra.
“Our presence at SMAN 7 Kendari aims to inspire students and teachers so that the spirit of National Education Day (Hardiknas) becomes motivation to improve the quality of education through literacy as its foundation,” said Hafidz Muksin at SMAN 7 Kendari in commemoration of National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2026.
Hafidz Muksin emphasised that literacy is not merely the ability to read and write, but a deep understanding that can change a person’s behaviour for the better.
He also encouraged a movement to prioritise language through the Indonesian Language Proficiency Test (UKBI) for all students at the school as a benchmark for language proficiency.
“It is hoped that there will be a movement to enhance Indonesian at SMAN 7 Kendari, as well as prioritisation and proficiency in Indonesian through UKBI activities for all students,” he said.
He invited all students to study diligently and enjoy reading as one of the seven habits of outstanding Indonesian children.
“May diligent study and a love of reading produce an outstanding younger generation,” he explained.
In follow-up, Head of SMAN 7 Kendari, La Ode Muhammad Sauf, explained that they would make UKBI one of the requirements for students before completing their studies.
The concrete step taken is to require students to take the competency test before receiving their diploma.
“We will conduct a language proficiency competency test so that the children have a certificate. The UKBI certificate result is very important because it can be one of the requirements for them to continue education to higher education,” said Muhammad Sauf.
He added that the test implementation would be carried out in collaboration with the local Language Office and utilising available digital platforms. The school will direct competent educators to guide students in taking the competency test through the official link provided.
“This is an extraordinary pride. As concrete evidence of partnership with the Language Office of Southeast Sulawesi Province, we have also installed the Trigatra Bangun Bahasa plaque,” he added.
