Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education Reminds that TKA Scores Should Serve as Evaluation Instruments
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has reminded that Academic Ability Test (TKA) scores should not be seen as failures, but rather as one source of instruments for evaluating and improving the national education system.
Head of the Basic and Secondary Education Policy Agency (BKPDM) at Kemendikdasmen, Toni Toharudin, stated that the presence of TKA is designed as an evaluation instrument, not merely as a final assessment, so all parties need to view the results as a foundation for subsequent improvement steps.
“Yes, actually TKA is for improving the quality of learning. Not just schools, local governments and the ministry must also have strategies that can better accelerate quality based on the current existing results,” said Toni during a break from inspecting the TKA Monitoring Post for primary school level at the CBD BSD Complex, South Tangerang City, Banten Province, on Monday.
Furthermore, he emphasised that TKA results obtained from previous education levels must be seen as initial data for formulating subsequent policies based on real field conditions.
“So we are very grateful when we already have TKA results for all levels, what we must do,” he added.
Public attention, according to Toni, should not only focus on the controversies of TKA implementation, but shift the discourse towards concrete solutions in improving education quality.
“So it’s better for the media to convey what we must do going forward, not fixated on issues related to TKA implementation,” he said.
He also reiterated the importance of improving education quality, which should be the main agenda for all parties, from the Central Government, Local Governments, to education units.
“It’s better to shift the issue to how the next step for quality improvement. Because indeed, the existing situation, if compared to other results, is similar. So we have a big homework for this quality improvement,” said Toni.
