Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education Prepares Accommodations to Support Academic Ability Test Implementation for Students with Special Needs
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is preparing several accommodations to support the implementation of the Academic Ability Test (TKA) for junior secondary education level for test participants with special needs (ABK).
Head of the Education Assessment Centre of Kemendikdasmen, Rahmawati, stated that these accommodations are provided not only for TKA participants with ABK status who attend special needs schools (SLB), but also for those attending regular inclusive schools.
“So, not only for special needs schools, we also provide accommodations for students with special needs in regular schools. These accommodations are in the form of adjusted questions,” said Rahmawati during the Media Meeting for the Implementation of the Academic Ability Test for Junior Secondary/MTs/equivalent Levels in Bekasi City, West Java Province, on Tuesday evening.
These question-based accommodations, she continued, are tailored to the barriers faced by the TKA participants so that they can complete each question optimally.
For test participants with visual impairments, such as the blind or low vision, they provide question packages with minimal image content, whether in the form of graphs, tables, or pictures.
Conversely, they provide question packages with more image content and fewer sentences for test participants with hearing impairments or ABK with mild spectrum learning barriers.
“Because they are stronger in visuals than in vocabulary or complex sentences. And this has already been implemented,” said Rahmawati.
On the same occasion, Head of the Basic and Secondary Education Policy Agency of Kemendikdasmen, Toni Toharudin, said that they are also receiving input regarding the organisation of TKA for ABK participants.
Some schools, he said, suggest that the TKA schedule for ABK participants should not be too early because they need more time to prepare to go to school.
