Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education constructs 21 emergency classrooms in Pidie Jaya
Meureudu — The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is constructing 21 emergency classrooms (RKD) at schools affected by flooding and landslides in Pidie Jaya District, Aceh Province.
“This represents a genuine effort on our part to accelerate development and reconstruction following the disasters that struck Sumatra, particularly Pidie Jaya District,” said Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti during a visit to Pidie Jaya District on Tuesday.
The statement was made whilst visiting SMA Negeri 2 Meureudu in Pidie Jaya to inaugurate six emergency classrooms and distribute educational books and equipment.
The minister explained that the 21 emergency classrooms are distributed across five schools affected by flooding and landslides in Pidie Jaya District. He noted that the emergency classroom construction serves as a temporary measure whilst permanent school building reconstruction is undertaken.
“We continue to work to ensure that school building reconstruction can proceed promptly, and once the school buildings are completed, the emergency classrooms can be utilised for purposes such as canteens or other learning-related facilities,” said Minister Mu’ti.
The ministry continues to implement various measures to restore learning activities and educational infrastructure, he added.
Muhammadiah, principal of SMA Negeri 2 Meureudu, expressed gratitude to Kemendikdasmen for its exceptional attention to the school. He noted that SMA Negeri 2 Meureudu suffered the most severe damage from the flooding that occurred in late November 2025.
“During this blessed month of Ramadan, we express our gratitude for the inauguration of six emergency classrooms. We are deeply honoured by Minister Mu’ti’s visit, which provides momentum for us to recover and improve further,” said Muhammadiah.
SMA Negeri 2 Meureudu is among the schools in Pidie Jaya District scheduled to receive new building construction by Kemendikdasmen in collaboration with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Army. All school buildings will be demolished and rebuilt according to new architectural plans.
