Sorong - The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has allocated Rp2 billion for the construction of Muhammadiyah Primary School No. 2 in Sorong City to support improved education quality in Southwest Papua Province.

Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti, in Sorong on Wednesday, stated that the school construction was necessary due to its location in a flood-prone area, requiring more adequate and safe learning facilities for students.

“This school must be built as it is situated in an area frequently affected by floods. With the Rp2 billion assistance, new classrooms and a two-storey building will be constructed,” he said.

The funding was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony for the school construction conducted by Minister Abdul Mu’ti during his working visit to Sorong City.

He added that the school construction assistance is part of the central government’s commitment to enhancing education quality, particularly in remote, frontier, and outermost regions (3T), including Southwest Papua.

“This demonstrates the government’s commitment to continuously improving education in 3T areas to ensure children receive better educational services,” he said.

He expressed optimism that the construction of Muhammadiyah Primary School No. 2 in Sorong City would strengthen educational infrastructure and support quality teaching and learning for students in the region.
