Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education allocates Rp1.3 billion to build emergency classrooms in West Sumatra
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has allocated up to Rp1.3 billion in funding to build seven schools consisting of 26 emergency classrooms in West Sumatra (Sumbar), which were affected by hydro-meteorological disasters at the end of 2025.
“Alhamdulillah, we have already built seven schools with a total of 26 emergency classrooms at a construction cost of Rp1.3 billion for Sumbar,” said the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu’ti in Padang Pariaman Regency on Friday.
One of the emergency classrooms built by Kemendikdasmen is located at SD Negeri 05 Batang Anai in Padang Pariaman Regency.
Mendikdasmen assured that all emergency classrooms will eventually be constructed as permanent structures for the comfort and safety of students and teachers.
Moreover, for schools that are severely damaged or unsuitable for occupancy, he said, they will be rebuilt in new locations or in areas safe from potential natural disasters.
Mendikdasmen emphasised that the government has allocated a budget in 2026 for the construction or relocation of educational units affected by the Sumbar disaster.
The budget will be used to build 82 early childhood education units, 161 primary schools (SD), 25 junior secondary schools (SMP), 25 senior secondary schools (SMA), as well as four vocational secondary schools (SMK) and four special needs schools (SLB) each. The first phase has reached 70 percent completion with a budget of Rp167.53 billion.
“In total, there are 301 educational units to be built with self-managed funds. This means that each school will handle the construction itself,” said Mendikdasmen.
“So Alhamdulillah, in West Sumatra, all teaching and learning activities are running as they should,” said Mendikdasmen Abdul Mu’ti.
Even at SD Negeri 05 Batang Anai in Padang Pariaman Regency, which Mendikdasmen visited, it is equipped with Interactive Flat Panel (IFP) facilities. These supporting facilities are expected to further enhance the teaching and learning process ahead of the Primary School Academic Ability Test (TKA SD) on Monday (20/4).
During his visit, Mendikdasmen also interacted and held direct dialogues with the students. He advised all students to remain optimistic about the future despite still learning in emergency classrooms.
