Padang (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is accelerating the recovery of schools affected by flash floods and landslides that struck three provinces in Sumatra to prevent disruptions to the teaching and learning process.

“If all teaching and learning activities are already running, except in Aceh where some are not yet complete,” said the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu’ti in Padang Pariaman Regency on Friday.

This was stated by the Mendikdasmen during his working visit to Padang Pariaman Regency, which included inaugurating emergency classrooms at Batang Anai State Elementary School 05 in Padang Pariaman Regency.

The Mendikdasmen stated that by mid-April 2026, the teaching and learning process in all educational units in North Sumatra Province and West Sumatra Province had been running well.

Nevertheless, learning continues with students joining other schools. In addition, some disaster-affected schools are implementing morning and afternoon shift mechanisms.

Abdul Mu’ti said that as of 31 March 2026, the government has allocated assistance in the education sector for Aceh worth Rp1.19 trillion, then Rp322 billion for West Sumatra Province and Rp636 billion for North Sumatra Province.

“In total for the three disaster-affected provinces, we have disbursed funds up to Rp2.8 trillion,” he said.

During his visit to the Minangkabau region, the Mendikdasmen targeted the recovery or revitalisation of schools in the three disaster-affected provinces to be completed in the new academic year 2026. It is hoped that by July 2026, all schools can carry out the teaching and learning process normally.
