Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education: 1.6 Million Primary School Students Take Academic Ability Test on First Day

Head of the Basic and Secondary Education Policy Agency (BKPDM) at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Toni Toharudin, stated that 4,452,982 primary school (SD) students will participate in the Academic Ability Test (TKA) from 20 April to 30 April 2026. On the first day, Monday, 20 April 2026, 1,607,830 primary school students had already taken the TKA. “The number of primary education units (SD/MI/equivalent) participating in the TKA is 172,274,” he said when contacted on Tuesday, 21 April 2026. He claimed that the implementation of the primary school level TKA proceeded smoothly on the first day. The total attendance reached 98.8 percent. For students unable to take the TKA, they can do so in the makeup session on 11 May 2026. “The makeup TKA provides an opportunity for students who face obstacles or are unable to participate, so that students are not disadvantaged,” he said. Toni claimed that the government has prepared for the TKA implementation. “Starting with independent simulations through the ‘ayo coba TKA’ website, national simulations, and national dry runs. In addition, the helpdesk network from district/city, provincial, to central levels has always been solid in coordinating well within the scope of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and education offices,” he said. It is known that the 2026 Primary School TKA is participated in by more than 4.4 million students from 175,000 education units. The implementation of the TKA for primary education level takes place from 20 to 30 April 2026, with makeup exam sessions starting from 11 to 17 May 2026. The announcement of the TKA results for primary education level will be carried out on 18-23 May 2026.
