Ministry of Agriculture's Crop Insurance: Central Java Farmers Successfully Claim Rp 7.1 Billion
The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, has launched the Rice Crop Insurance (AUTP) programme as part of a protection initiative for farmers against crop failure risks and to bolster national food production.
Purwanta, Director of Agricultural Financing at the Directorate General of Agricultural Infrastructure and Facilities of the Ministry of Agriculture, stated that the AUTP is an established programme running since 2015. It serves as a protective instrument for farmers facing various risks, including droughts and crop failures caused by El Niño, as well as flooding and pest infestations.
The Ministry of Agriculture has allocated the AUTP to target 100,000 hectares of rice cultivation across Indonesia for 2026. Farmers belonging to farmer groups can register for the AUTP programme through local Jasindo representatives. The premium is set at Rp 180,000, with 80% covered by the State Budget (APBN), while the remainder is funded through Regional Budgets (APBD) or farmer self-funding.
The Ministry noted successful AUTP claims, such as the flooding cases in four regencies in Central Java in 2025, where out of a total claim of Rp 9 billion, Rp 7.1 billion was approved.
Specifically for the 2026 drought cases, 28 farmer groups across four regions—Sampit, Rembang, Serang, and Yogyakarta—covering 118 hectares, have successfully filed claims with estimated losses of Rp 740 million.
