Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Agriculture supports dairy cattle farming investment in Central Java to increase national milk production and strengthen self-sufficiency as well as the welfare of farmers.

“The investment in dairy cow development by PT Global Dairi Bersama is expected to bring positive impacts,” said the Director General of Livestock and Animal Health of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agung Suganda, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

The investment is being carried out by PT Global Dairi Bersama in Brebes Regency, Central Java, with plans to develop a population of up to 30,000 dairy cows and a production capacity of up to 180,000 tons of milk per year.

According to Agung, this step will have positive impacts, including driving economic growth, creating jobs, improving human resource quality, and enhancing social welfare in Brebes Regency and Central Java.

He stated that the investment is one of the integrated mega dairy cow farm developments in Indonesia, expected to meet domestic milk needs.

Agung emphasised that this step is part of the government’s grand strategy to promote food self-sufficiency, particularly for dairy commodities.

Furthermore, Agung said the government not only encourages investment but also ensures concrete support for farmers through financing facilitation, land provision, infrastructure development, and guarantees for product absorption.

The Ministry of Agriculture notes that national milk demand is estimated to reach 8.5 million tons by 2029, while domestic production is still insufficient.

“This situation opens up great opportunities for farmers to increase the scale of their businesses and productivity,” said Agung.

As part of strengthening the livestock ecosystem, the mega farm investment not only absorbs direct labour but also creates broad economic impacts in the upstream and downstream sectors.

The development of forage crops of around 2,000 hectares per year is projected to empower about 5,000 farmers in Brebes and supporting areas.

In addition, the bull fattening programme for around 7,000 dairy cows per year also opens partnership opportunities for about 8,000 farmers in Brebes and surrounding regencies.

The government emphasises that accelerating this investment is part of the National Milk and Meat Production Acceleration Programme (P2SDN), which involves cross-ministerial synergy and local government to strengthen the overall livestock ecosystem.

With this step, added Agung, farmers not only gain opportunities to increase production but also business and market certainty, in line with the state’s presence in guiding investments and policies in the livestock subsector.

Meanwhile, Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi affirmed the provincial government’s full commitment to supporting the acceleration of this investment.

He also urged the acceleration of field implementation so that the benefits can be felt soon.

“The production target can be achieved at the latest in 2027, and if possible, groundbreaking or grand opening can be carried out in May,” said Luthfi.

Brebes Regent Paramitha Widya Kusuma expressed appreciation for the investment entering her region and emphasised the strategic impact for the area.

According to Paramitha, this investment is a great opportunity to drive regional economic growth.

“This investment is certainly a great opportunity for the people of Brebes, especially in efforts to improve the regional economy, open jobs, and encourage community welfare,” said Paramitha.

Savoria Group CEO Ihsan Mulia Putri stated that the investment is designed as an integrated dairy cow farming zone that is not only production-oriented but also empowers farmers and environmental sustainability.

“This development is designed by us as a large-scale integrated dairy cow farm with support for around 710 hectares of land and a production capacity of up to 180 thousand tons per year,” she said.

The investment is also expected to increase milk production in Central Java up to twice as much and strengthen partnerships with farmers in the national dairy industry ecosystem.
