Ministry of Agriculture and National Food Agency Stabilise Falling Chicken Egg Prices at Farmer Level
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) together with the National Food Agency (Bapanas) has partnered with associations, cooperatives, and poultry farming business actors to maintain the stability of egg prices, which have recently fallen below the government’s reference price (HAP) at the farmer level.
“The purpose of today’s meeting is to address several matters, particularly related to the stabilisation of egg prices at the farmer level, which have indeed slightly decreased below the government’s reference price recently,” said the Director General of Livestock and Animal Health of Kementan, Agung Suganda, in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He emphasised this after the National Poultry Meeting specifically on egg price conditions, attended by Bapanas, farmer associations, cooperatives, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).
The meeting focused on responding to the decline in egg prices at the farmer level, which have recently been below the government’s reference selling price for producers or on-farm.
Egg prices in Central Java were recorded at around Rp23,000 per kilogram, while in West Java they were slightly higher but still below the government’s reference price of Rp26,500 per kilogram.
According to Agung, the decline in egg prices is influenced by high national production, projected to reach 7.3 million tonnes in 2026, or a surplus of around 13% compared to national needs.
He said that the national egg surplus can still be controlled because the government continues to promote egg exports and strengthen distribution from surplus areas to regions still experiencing deficits.
