The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) is inviting the North Maluku (Malut) Provincial Government to strengthen efforts to produce top talent to support industrial downstreaming. Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto stated that the development of higher education must be aligned with regional development potential so that universities can play an optimal role in preparing talent and producing research and innovation that benefits the community. “If there are strategic fields needed by North Maluku, we will encourage their strengthening in higher education so that graduates can truly meet the development needs there,” he said. The scheme includes mentoring by universities that excel in the required fields, sending lecturers, developing collaborative classes, and strengthening study programmes that support regional needs. He expressed hope that this step would improve the quality of the higher education ecosystem in North Maluku while expanding study options for local residents. North Maluku Governor Sherly stated, “We need study programmes that suit North Maluku’s needs, such as metallurgy, supply chain, information technology, and other fields that support industrial development in the region.” Potential cooperation also includes strengthening medical education in North Maluku to meet the need for general practitioners and specialists, through academic mentoring and competency development for institutions in North Maluku with other universities that have leading medical faculties.
