Ministers must be clean
Ministers must be clean
From Koran Tempo
The election of Megawati Soekarnoputri as president and Hamzah
Haz as vice president has been positively responded to by the
markets, which has been shown by the strengthening of the rupiah
against the U.S. dollar from Rp 11,000 to Rp 10,000.
The strengthening of the rupiah can be attributed to a number
of factors: trust in political stability and the tricks of market
players who are now selling their dollars and, in the process,
encouraging other people to sell theirs, with the intention of
buying them back at a certain point when they will get bigger
gains. However, whatever the reasons are, the rupiah is getting
stronger, albeit temporarily.
The country's politics are becoming increasingly stable as a
result of the horse trading between the supporters of Megawati
and Hamzah Haz to determine what to prioritize (party
representatives or professionals) in the coalition cabinet. In
fact, the top priority is that Law No. 28 of 1999 on the
establishment of a government free from corruption, collusion and
nepotism be implemented.
Therefore, in order not to repeat the same mistakes made by
the Abdurrahman Wahid administration, Megawati and Hamzah must be
consistent in choosing their assistants in the cabinet.
