Ministers face quiz over Indosat

JAKARTA: The House of Representatives (DPR) is scheduled on Monday to hear explanations from the government over the sale the state's 41.9 percent stake in telecommunications firm PT Indosat to Singapore Technologies Telemedia Pte Ltd. (STT).

Among the government officials scheduled to attend the hearing are Coordinating Minister for the Economy Dorodjatun Kuntjoro- Jakti, State Minister for State Enterprises Laksamana Sukardi, Indonesian Military chief Gen. Endriartono Sutarto, and National Intelligence Agency (BIN) director A.M. Hendropriyono.

House deputy speaker Tosari Widjaja said after a meeting on Friday that the hearing would not halt another move by legislators to seek explanations over the Indosat divestment.

A group of 117 legislators from various factions has proposed the establishment of a special committee of inquiry into the controversial sell-off. --JP
