Minister's brother killed in Karachi

PAKISTAN: Two unidentified attackers riding on a motorcycle
fatally shot the brother of Interior Minister Moinuddin Haider as
he was driving home in the port city of Karachi, police said.

Ehtishamuddin Haider, 52, had just attended a meeting at a
hospital when the men sprayed his car with gunfire. He was hit by
three bullets and died at the scene.

Presiding over a seminar a day earlier on "Terrorism -- A New
Challenge to the World of Islam," the interior minister had vowed
to take strong action against sectarian violence and extremist
religious groups.

The interior minister is among Pakistan's most powerful
officials because all civil intelligence agencies work under him
and he controls the police in all four provinces as well as
paramilitary forces. --AP
