Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has responded to discussions on salary cuts for ministers and DPR members, as part of efforts to streamline the budget and maintain the state budget deficit below 3%. Although he stated that he does not mind if ministers’ salaries are reduced to support this efficiency programme, Purbaya admitted he could not confirm whether the policy would also apply to DPR members’ salaries. He left all decisions on the matter to President Prabowo Subianto, as the final decision-maker. “If it’s (a salary cut for) ministers, that’s fine, but if it’s (a salary cut for) the DPR, I don’t know,” Purbaya said at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy office in Jakarta on Monday, 6 April 2026. “But we’ll see what the president’s policy will be,” he added. Regarding the possible percentage of salary cuts for ministers, Purbaya predicted that it could be around 25%. However, he emphasised that this figure was merely his personal assumption, as no final decision had been made. “It seems (the percentage of the salary cut) might be 25%. Not yet (a final decision), but I guess around 25%,” Purbaya said. Although he acknowledged discussions leaning towards a policy of salary cuts for ministers, Purbaya once again stressed that the decision rests with Prabowo and is not yet final. “There are talks like that, but the final decision is still not clear,” Purbaya stated. On his personal opinion regarding the salary cut proposal for ministers, Purbaya jokingly said that he does not mind if his salary as a minister is reduced because he already has plenty of money. “It’s fine (if my salary is cut), I have lots of money anyway,” he remarked.
