Minister Yusril: Pesantren Vision Aligns with President Prabowo's Astacita

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra has stated that the vision of pesantren, or Islamic boarding schools, is in line with the Astacita vision of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration. Speaking at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Dea Malela Modern International Pesantren in Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday, he noted that this alignment is particularly evident in the development of quality human resources, the strengthening of science and technology, and the consolidation of national ideology. President Prabowo Subianto places great hope in educational institutions such as the Dea Malela Modern International Pesantren, Yusril said. Over the past decade, the pesantren has demonstrated its commitment to nurturing a young generation that is not only intellectually superior and globally minded but also spiritually resilient and morally upright. The government considers that the Dea Malela Modern International Pesantren has transformed into one of the most visionary centres of Islamic education in eastern Indonesia. Yusril also expressed appreciation for the tangible contributions of Prof. Din Syamsuddin in building this international educational network. The presence of multinational students at the pesantren proves that Indonesia is capable of becoming a global beacon of moderate and peaceful Islamic civilisation. The Dea Malela Modern International Pesantren was founded by national Islamic scholar and intellectual Din Syamsuddin with the vision ‘From Sumbawa to the World’. The name ‘Dea Malela’ is taken from a charismatic ulama from Gowa-Makassar, Ismail Dea Malela, an iconic figure in the spread of Islam in Sumbawa and the downstream regions of the archipelago who was exiled by the colonial powers to Cape Town, South Africa. Since its establishment, the pesantren has been designed as a centre of excellence for international-standard Islamic education, combining a modern science curriculum, leadership character building, and universal Islamic values. Its students come not only from various parts of Indonesia but also from abroad, including Russia, Thailand, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste. The solemn and festive anniversary celebration was attended by several ministers and deputy ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, including Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti, and Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Fauzan, along with other national figures, representatives of friendly nations, ulama, and community leaders from West Nusa Tenggara.
