Jakarta – The Minister of Population and Family Development and Head of BKKBN, Wihaji, has highlighted the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection (PP TUNAS).

Wihaji assessed that the success of this regulation depends heavily on family involvement in monitoring children’s digital activities.

“From families emerge the values of protection and oversight for children,” said Wihaji in a statement on Tuesday evening (16 March 2026).

Wihaji noted that the experience of several countries, including Australia, demonstrates that policies restricting children’s access to social media are indeed important.

Therefore, he stressed, the success of child protection policies in the digital space depends not only on regulation or technology alone, but also on the role of the family as the smallest unit within the state.

He emphasised that the government does not want family resilience to be disrupted by negative content in the digital space.

Through implementing regulations derived from PP TUNAS issued by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, all digital platforms are now required to provide parental consent mechanisms and control features for children.

However, Wihaji assessed that this technology will only be effective if supported by active parental involvement in children’s digital lives.

Therefore, his ministry has called for active parental participation in its implementation.

“We urge parents to be more present in their children’s digital lives, to accompany them, to monitor them, and to be the first place for children to share their stories,” he said.
