“Facing these three challenges, technical skills and soft skills alone are not enough. Young people must have market entry readiness, or the ability to understand the dynamics of the global labor market,” Yassierli said in a statement here on Tuesday.

He emphasized that these three areas of readiness are crucial as the workforce faces global uncertainty, increasing international competition, and massive technological disruption.

In such situation, he added, young people are expected to be more adaptive to avoid being left behind in entering the workforce while being able to seize emerging opportunities.

The minister also highlighted that technological advancements have brought major changes to industry. Automation and artificial intelligence (AI) are no longer just supportive tools but have transformed how industries operate and evolve.

“This phenomenon has triggered a surge in demand for high-skilled labor. Companies now seek human resources who can not only operate technology but also design, manage, and collaborate with AI systems,” he said.

Yassierli noted that eight of the 11 core skills predicted to be highly needed by 2030 are human skills, emphasizing cognitive, social, and self-management abilities that distinguish humans amid accelerating technology.

These eight skills include leadership and social influence; analytical thinking; creative thinking; resilience, flexibility, and agility; curiosity and lifelong learning; motivation and self-awareness; empathy and active listening; and talent management.

One of the government’s efforts to support is the National Internship program in industries, which not only provides work experience for new graduates but also creates opportunities for them to be recruited as employees.
