Minister Urges Industry to Deliver Innovation and Safe AI
Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid has requested that industries presenting artificial intelligence solutions not only produce innovation but also ensure the security of their technology, especially concerning data management, given that data is the foundation of AI innovation development. “The important lesson is that the success of AI is not only determined by its sophistication but also by the ability to manage data securely, ethically, and responsibly,” Meutya said at the BRAVO 500 Summit 2026 held by XLSmart in Jakarta on Thursday. To ensure that security factors are met in AI development by the industry, the Government is working to provide a legal umbrella to create AI governance in Indonesia. “We ask our business colleagues to go full throttle, but we as the government, as regulators, we convey that we must regulate, that an innovation must certainly also be framed within frameworks for the sake of public protection,” Meutya said. She outlined four foundational prerequisites for the ethical and effective use of AI: transparent digital governance, reliable digital infrastructure, secure and integrated data management, and competitive digital talent development. “We want to convey that we encourage the growth of AI, but it should not only be used as technological innovation but also as a foundation for economic growth, improved public services, sustainable social progress, and all of that must be pursued,” Meutya said.
