Minister: 'UMKM' Status Will Ease Online Drivers' Access to Microcredit

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Maman Abdurrahman has stated that online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers classified as micro-enterprise operators will find it easier to access financing through the People’s Business Credit (KUR) programme. Maman said this ease is possible because the drivers are already part of a digital ecosystem, allowing their activity and income data to be integrated with the Ministry of UMKM’s ‘Sapa UMKM’ application to support financing access. “If we push this financing access to our ojol friends, it becomes easier because their ecosystem is already formed. They are part of a digital ecosystem, whether it’s the system at Grab, GoTo, or Maxim,” Maman said after an audience with the online motorcycle taxi community in Jakarta on Wednesday. Maman stated that access to KUR is one of the facilities resulting from the designation of ojol drivers as micro-enterprise operators. The designation of ojol drivers’ status as micro-enterprise operators will be regulated in a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) currently being prepared by the government. Nevertheless, Maman stressed that the distribution of KUR to ojol drivers will still refer to the applicable provisions. Drivers with problematic credit records, such as those listed in the Financial Services Authority’s (OJK) Financial Information Service System (SLIK) with a history of bad credit, will not be able to obtain financing.
