Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono revealed that his ministry will soon inaugurate the Red-and-White Village/Urban Village Cooperatives (KDMP) managing palm oil, or Crude Palm Oil (CPO), and the Solar Power Plant (PLTS) sector in August 2026.

The palm oil sector KDMP will be inaugurated in Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province, while the solar power sector KDMP will be inaugurated on Sembur Laut Island, Galang Baru Urban Village, Riau Islands.

“In August, we will inaugurate a CPO factory in Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra — that is the Sejahtera Village Unit Cooperative. Then, in August as well, with the permission and blessing of Mr (President Prabowo Subianto), we intend to inaugurate a 0.5 to 1 megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Sembur Laut, Galang Baru Island, Riau Islands,” said Minister Ferry at the peak of the 79th Cooperative Day commemoration in 2026 at the Indonesia Arena, Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, on Sunday.

Minister Ferry explained that KDMP are now permitted to operate businesses in various sectors, ranging from mining and palm oil to power generation.

“Cooperatives may now manage mines and minerals,” said Minister Ferry.

In addition, this year a new Cooperatives Law will be enacted, given that current cooperative regulations still refer to Law Number 25 of 1992.

“This year a new Cooperatives Law will be born, because the law we currently use is Law Number 25 of 1992. With the new law, it is hoped it will become the legal umbrella for the cooperative movement in Indonesia,” he said.

He expressed confidence that cooperative enterprises will begin to rise again and prepare to contribute maximally to the national economy, as private enterprises and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have done.

“InsyaAllah, it will later benefit the circulation of money in villages, as well as economic growth in villages,” said Minister Ferry.

Together with the Indonesian Cooperative Council and the Cooperative Movement, he believes the government will be able to carry forward the ideals of national cooperative figures, such as the Father of Indonesian Cooperatives Mohammad Hatta and former General Chairman of the Civil Servants’ Cooperative Association (IKPN) Sumitro Djojohadikusumo.

“Together with the cooperative movement and the Indonesian Cooperative Council, we will be the vanguard in implementing and carrying forward the great ideals of the cooperative figures, in particular implementing President Prabowo Subianto’s grand vision for cooperatives to once again become the pillar of the national economy,” said Minister Ferry.
