Minister to Evaluate Discrepancy Between KMP Putri Yasmin Manifest and Evacuation Data

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi will evaluate the discrepancy between the passenger manifest of the Motor Ferry KMP Putri Yasmin and the number of passengers evacuated when the vessel caught fire in the waters off Sekotong, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Dudy stated that the manifest for KMP Putri Yasmin recorded 114 passengers at the time of departure, excluding the crew. “So the initial manifest report was 114 passengers, not including the crew,” Dudy said at Lembar Port on Wednesday (12/8/2026). However, this data differs from the number of people evacuated by the SAR team. To date, the SAR team has evacuated 173 people from the KMP Putri Yasmin. According to Dudy, the data discrepancy indicates a suspected addition of passengers after the manifest was reported. This is one of the matters the Ministry of Transport will evaluate. “This is one of our evaluations. That even though the sailing permit has been issued with that manifest data, there were additions at the time of sailing,” he added. Dudy stressed that the accuracy of manifest data is crucial, especially in emergency conditions. This data is needed to ascertain the number of victims who must be evacuated and receive treatment. “So that Basarnas knows how many victims to evacuate. The insurance company also knows how many people should be given assistance,” he asserted. According to Dudy, there is a time gap between the reporting of passenger data during the sailing permit process and the ship’s departure. During this period, any additional passengers should be reported. “Between the permit reporting time and when the ship sails, there is a time gap. At that time, there were additional passengers that should have been reported,” he said. Previously, KMP Putri Yasmin was reported to have caught fire while crossing the waters off Sekotong Beach, West Lombok, NTB, in the early hours of Wednesday (12/8/2026). Information about the incident was received by the Mataram SAR Office from the Skipper of Rescue Boat 220 Mataram, Nurdin, at 04.39 WITA. The Mataram SAR Office Public Relations officer, I Gusti Lanang Wiswananda, said that based on initial reports, the ship fire was estimated to have occurred at 04.15 WITA. The Rescue Team immediately moved to the scene to conduct rescue and evacuation efforts. “The team departed at 04.45 WITA and was estimated to arrive at the scene at 05.10 WITA,” Lanang explained.
