Minister to Attend Graduation of ITS Student Who Fell in Duty in Central Sulawesi, Trans Patriot Participant to Be Honoured Posthumously
Palu - The Minister of Transmigration (Mentrans), M Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara, is scheduled to attend the graduation ceremony of a student from the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya, East Java, who was also a participant in the Transmigrasi Patriot (Trans Patriot) programme and fell while on duty, Abdul Rohid. Iftitah explained that the student was part of Trans Patriot, which involves outstanding human resources from seven universities in Indonesia to support the development of economic potential in the regions. “I should also mention on this occasion that one of the Trans Patriot participants passed away while on duty in Bahari Tomini Raya,” he said after the frozen durian export release event in Palu, Central Sulawesi, on Thursday (16/4/2026). He revealed that the student had been evacuated to Surabaya after falling ill and ultimately passed away in hospital. “The late student was actually scheduled to graduate in September, but he chose to go to Central Sulawesi in August to conduct research and mapping of economic potential,” he said. Iftitah stated that he would attend the graduation procession scheduled for Saturday. “Insha Allah, I will attend the graduation on Saturday,” he said. According to him, the student’s dedication serves as an example of the younger generation’s commitment to supporting regional development, particularly in transmigration areas. He also emphasised that the current transmigration programme focuses on developing regional economic potential, not just population relocation, by involving outstanding human resources to drive regional progress.
