Minister: Temporary housing for railway track residents completed

The Minister of Housing and Residential Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait (Ara), has revealed that the construction of temporary housing (huntara) for communities residing in the railway trackside areas of Senen, Central Jakarta, has been completed.

“I checked earlier and it is finished,” said Ara during the inauguration of the Directorate General of Urban Housing Office of the Ministry of PKP in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He expressed his hope that the temporary housing could be officially inaugurated on 15 June this year.

“It is ready to be inaugurated on 15 June,” Ara stated.

For information, Minister Maruarar Sirait expressed his appreciation to state-owned construction enterprises (BUMN Karya), such as Hutama Karya, Wijaya Karya, and PP (Persero), regarding the construction of the temporary housing for the community living along the railway tracks in the Senen area.

Regarding the progress of the 324 temporary housing units, Ara noted that the development has been extraordinary and rapid, with a completion target of 15 June.

He emphasised that the construction of this temporary housing is a swift step by the government to provide decent and humane housing for the community.

The government aims to ensure that citizens obtain more decent, safe, and organised living spaces. These temporary units serve as a rapid solution while permanent urban restructuring is being prepared.

Ara ensured that the built housing is not only constructed quickly but also considers the adequacy and comfort of the residents.

According to him, each unit of temporary housing will be equipped with two beds, a wardrobe, and a fan. Additionally, the area will be provided with supporting facilities such as dining areas, toilets, kitchens, a prayer room (mushalla), and green open spaces.

Ara also expressed his appreciation for the cross-sector collaboration in accelerating this programme.

The construction of temporary housing in the Senen area is expected to be utilised by the community immediately, while also serving as part of an urban area restructuring process that is more orderly, safe, and humane.

Through this step, the Ministry of PKP reaffirms its commitment to providing fast, accurate, and community-oriented housing solutions.
