Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Housing and Residential Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait (Ara) revealed that the construction of temporary housing (huntara) for communities living along the railway tracks in Senen, Central Jakarta, has been completed. “I checked earlier, and it is finished,” Ara said during the inauguration of the Directorate General of Urban Housing Office at the PKP Ministry in Jakarta on Tuesday. He expressed hope that the temporary housing could be officially inaugurated on 15 June this year. “It is ready to be inaugurated on 15 June,” Ara stated. Minister Maruarar Sirait commended state-owned construction enterprises such as Hutama Karya, Wijaya Karya, and PP (Persero) for their role in building the temporary housing for residents of the railway fringe areas in Senen. He described the construction progress of the 324 units as extraordinary and swift, with the target completion date set for 15 June. He stressed that the construction of these temporary units is a rapid government measure to provide decent and humane shelter. The government wants to ensure residents obtain housing that is more liveable, safe, and well-ordered. This temporary housing is a quick solution while we prepare permanent arrangements. Ara confirmed that the housing has been constructed not only rapidly but also with an eye to decency and comfort. According to him, each unit is equipped with two beds, a wardrobe, and a fan. Moreover, the area is complemented by supporting facilities such as a dining area, toilets, kitchens, a prayer room, and green open spaces. Ara also expressed appreciation for the cross-sector collaboration in accelerating the programme. The temporary housing in the Senen area is expected to be utilised by the community immediately, while also forming part of a more orderly, safe, and humane urban area arrangement. Through this step, the PKP Ministry affirmed its commitment to delivering housing solutions that are fast, precise, and in favour of communities in need.
