Minister targets millennials, Gen Z with 'Gen Coop Run' to promote cooperatives
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono has invited millennials and Gen Z to get to know cooperatives through the Gen Coop Run, part of the commemoration of the 79th National Cooperative Day, which carries the spirit of healthy living.
“Today, this morning, we are holding the Gen Coop Run. The Ministry of Cooperatives wants to target the younger generation, millennials and Gen Z,” said Ferry after seeing off thousands of Gen Coop Run participants in Jakarta on Sunday.
Ferry said the Gen Coop Run was designed to reach young people so they would increasingly recognise cooperatives as an economic movement that is relevant, modern, and close to everyday life.
According to him, the event is a continuation of the 79th National Cooperative Day commemorations, following the main ceremony at the Indonesia Arena attended by President Prabowo Subianto on 12 July 2026.
The Gen Coop Run was organised by the Ministry of Cooperatives together with the Indonesian Cooperative Council in the Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said area of Jakarta, taking advantage of the Car Free Day (CFD).
Ferry also expressed appreciation to Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo for the arrangement of the Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said area, making it greener, more comfortable, and supportive of various community activities.
He said the transformation of Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said also benefits the surroundings of the Ministry of Cooperatives while opening up a more representative public space for community and sporting activities.
Ferry hopes the Gen Coop Run can be a means of building a healthy lifestyle while strengthening the younger generation’s connection with cooperatives through inclusive, open, and enjoyable activities.
At the same event, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the Gen Coop Run was the first ministry or agency activity on Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said since Car Free Day was implemented, and it is hoped it will strengthen collaboration with the Jakarta Provincial Government.
“Hopefully events like this, cooperation like this, will make the ministries and agencies, and of course Jakarta, ever more colourful. And now many people are using this to exercise so they can live more healthily,” said Pramono.
