Minister: Strengthening OSH Ecosystem Key to Improving Worker Protection

Manpower Minister Yassierli has stated that strengthening the national Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) ecosystem is a crucial effort to enhance worker protection. “The challenges of modern industry demand a transformation in OSH management that is no longer merely administrative, but touches on the essence of protecting workers’ lives,” the minister said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. He assessed that reinforcing the OSH ecosystem is vital given the significant challenges in safeguarding workers. According to BPJS Ketenagakerjaan data, throughout 2025 there have been 319,224 workplace accident claims, 158 occupational disease claims, 9,834 fatalities, and 4,133 cases of functional or total disability. Furthermore, the minister noted that supervisory methods remain dominated by conventional approaches and are not yet fully risk-based or supported by the use of digital technology. He also highlighted that the national OSH data system is not yet optimal. Workplace accident data is still scattered across various systems, meaning there is no single national dataset available to serve as a basis for policy formulation. In addition, the minister said the recording of occupational diseases in Indonesia remains very low.
