Minister: Shopee and Others Ready to Implement 50% Service Fee Cuts for MSMEs
Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Maman Abdurrahman has stated that e-commerce platforms, including Shopee, Tokopedia, TikTok Shop, and Lazada, are ready to implement a policy of cutting service fees by up to 50 per cent for MSMEs selling local products. Maman said the implementation is now just waiting for the completion of system integration between each marketplace and the ministry’s Sapa UMKM platform. “Alhamdulillah, they are ready, fully prepared,” Maman told reporters in Jakarta on Monday. He expressed hope that the policy could be enforced as soon as possible so that sellers on the marketplaces can immediately enjoy the incentive. He also stressed the importance of MSME players onboarding to Sapa UMKM in order to benefit from the incentive. He stated that the onboarding is not intended to add requirements, but rather to facilitate data collection and the distribution of incentives. Maman acknowledged that the implementation process will take time as it involves adjustments to the systems and mechanisms within each digital platform and the Ministry of MSMEs. Furthermore, he confirmed that the service fee reduction policy will be applied on an ongoing basis, not only during specific promotional periods such as religious holidays, New Year, or the national online shopping day. One of the provisions is the obligation for marketplace platforms to provide service fee cuts of up to 50 per cent for micro and small enterprises that meet the criteria, including being registered with Sapa UMKM, possessing a business identification number, and exclusively selling domestic products.
