Minister Seeks Solution After 995 Weapons Found at South Jakarta School

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti has responded to the discovery of 995 weapons, including an air rifle and a firearm, at a school in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. Mu’ti stated his ministry is committed to ensuring schools remain safe and comfortable environments for students. “We have communicated with the school. Regarding the findings, perhaps the security apparatus, in this case the police, have more authority to explain,” Mu’ti said after a meeting with House of Representatives leaders at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (10/8/2026). Mu’ti added that school supervision falls under the authority of the regional government. “We have communicated with the relevant parties and are currently seeking a solution,” he said. The 995 weapons were discovered on 10-11 July 2026, with further items found on Wednesday evening (5/8). Police detailed that 995 of the weapons were air rifles, while one was a Franchi SPA, SPAS-15 calibre 12 GA firearm belonging to a man identified as DS, a director at PT Lokta Karya Perbakin.
