Minister scrutinizes regent's ouster

PEKANBARU, Riau: Minister of Home Affairs Hari Sabarno said
here on Saturday he was studying the case of Kampar Regent Jefri
Noer who was dismissed by the city's legislative council.

"We still have to look into the case. The province has the
right to set up an independent team to probe the case," he said.

In a recent plenary meeting, the council decided to remove the
regent from his post for allegedly violating many regulations.

Hari, speaking to journalists after addressing a national
symposium on intellectual property rights, could not say when the
case would be solved.

"The main point is how to ensure that both the legislative and
executive bodies work in harmony for the benefit of the local
