He said that overall traffic during the 2026 Eid holiday season showed improvement, especially on the Trans Java toll road.

“Honestly, at first glance, it does seem better than last year, 2025,” he said in a discussion with the media in Jakarta, Thursday.

He explained that it was thanks to the support of a technology-based traffic monitoring system used by toll road operators.

According to him, the use of CCTV cameras, radar, and real-time vehicle monitoring systems facilitates faster decision-making in the field.

“It allows for easy detection of vehicle movement and provides information for policy-making for all parties,” he said.

Based on data from PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, the peak travel time from Cawang to Banyumanik was recorded at around 5 hours and 46 minutes during the homecoming period. Meanwhile, during the return travel, it was recorded at around 5 hours and 12 minutes.

Furthermore, based on vehicle transaction data, the average trip from Cikatama to Kalikangkung was around 7.4 hours, with a median around 6.6 hours.

The Ministry of Public Works also noted that the average vehicle speed remained above the minimum service standard (SPM) of 60 kilometers (km) per hour.

During the peak homecoming flow, the average vehicle speed was recorded at around 73.8 km per hour, while during the return, it increased to around 83.7 km per hour.

However, the minister acknowledged that several congestion points remained due to extremely dense traffic conditions, particularly around rest areas.

According to him, one point of concern was the rest area at kilometer 57 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, which caused slowdowns in traffic. “There was indeed some congestion at the MBZ, but it was mainly due to the rest area at kilometer 57,” he said.

However, in general, he assessed that the 2026 Eid homecoming and return traffic remained well-controlled.

He stated that the Ministry will continue to evaluate with stakeholders to improve the quality of road infrastructure services during the upcoming holiday seasons.
