Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto conducted a direct inspection of the construction progress of SMA Unggul Garuda in Konda District, South Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, on Wednesday (1/7). As of the end of June 2026, the development of the elite school has reached 61.933 percent and is targeted for completion by September this year. During the working visit, Minister Brian Yuliarto was accompanied by Southeast Sulawesi Governor Andi Sumangerukka, South Konawe Regent Irham Kalenggo, Head of the Provincial Education Office Aris Badara, and other officials from the provincial and regency governments. The minister received a briefing from the project executor regarding the development progress before inspecting several work points on site. The inspection was conducted to ensure the construction process is on schedule and meets the required technical specifications and quality standards. According to the project report, the SMA Unggul Garuda complex will be equipped with various educational support facilities, including classroom buildings, male and female dormitories, a principal’s official residence, housing for teachers and education staff, a multipurpose building, a canteen or food court, sports facilities, and other supporting infrastructure. Governor Andi Sumangerukka stated that the construction of SMA Unggul Garuda is part of efforts to strengthen the quality of human resources through the provision of competitive educational services. He emphasised that close collaboration between the central, provincial, and regency governments is a crucial strategic step. Through this synergy, a quality, inclusive, and highly competitive educational ecosystem can be created. The governor added that intergovernmental synergy is an important factor in expanding public access to quality education while preparing the younger generation to compete at both national and global levels. The government is targeting the physical construction of SMA Unggul Garuda to be completed by 27 September 2026, after which the project will enter a maintenance period from 28 September 2026 to 22 September 2027. The presence of SMA Unggul Garuda in Southeast Sulawesi is expected to become a national centre of educational excellence, supporting the equitable distribution of quality education in the eastern region of Indonesia.
