Minister Reveals Prabowo's Full Support for Ecosystem Restoration, Targets 12 Million Hectares

Jakarta – Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni has said that President Prabowo Subianto has given full support to ecosystem restoration efforts across the country. He described this as important capital for the government to accelerate the recovery of degraded forest areas. The statement was made during the commemoration of National Nature Conservation Day 2026 at the Angke Nature Tourism Park in Jakarta.

“I must be frank, I personally feel that I have received extraordinary support from the President to carry out this ecosystem restoration,” he said on Monday, 10 August 2026.

Raja Juli revealed that President Prabowo’s strong commitment to restoring the environment has even been openly affirmed at the international level, namely during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly last year. In that global forum, the President stated Indonesia’s commitment to restore degraded land or critical national land covering 12 million hectares, of which 6.7 million hectares are located in forest areas and 1.27 million hectares are conservation areas.

In addition to the commitment to restore critical land, President Prabowo’s concrete support has also been demonstrated through the fulfilment and increase in the number of forest police personnel to strengthen oversight in conservation areas. The recruitment of forest police members is targeted to reach 21,000 personnel, or at least to open 3,000 new positions in the near future.

Raja Juli acknowledged that ecosystem restoration is not easy, especially as the state has budget limitations to carry out all the targets on a large scale independently. However, he said this should not be a reason to stop or be pessimistic.

“As a policymaker and regulator, the state has limitations. There are many other avenues that we can still exercise, one of which is opening ourselves to cooperate with any party that has good intentions,” he said.
