In his speech, Supratman commended the performances by pupils and students from West Papua who presented a harmonious blend of movement, music and voice. He said the performances reflect the potential, drive and discipline of Papua’s younger generation, which needs to be supported through affirmative policy.

“The Ministry of Law wants to provide spaces of affirmation for the sons and daughters of Papua so that they have greater opportunities to access civil-service education and to become part of the civil service within the Ministry of Law,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday (19 May 2026).

He also offered opportunities for a number of pupils and students to continue their studies at the Indonesian Pengayoman Polytechnic, a government polytechnic under the Ministry of Law. For interested students, the programme would restart from the first semester with the prospect of becoming civil servants after completing their studies.

Additionally, university students currently pursuing higher education are welcome to continue their respective studies. Supratman emphasised that the Ministry of Law will continue to push the affirmative policy in the recruitment of civil servants for the sons and daughters of Papua.

“Since I first took office as Minister of Law, I have stated that affirmative action must be provided, both in the admission of prospective students and in the recruitment of civil servants within the Ministry of Law,” he said.

Further, at the event held on Monday (18 May) yesterday, he also encouraged junior high and senior high school students in Papua to start preparing early so that they can take advantage of opportunities for civil-service education within the Ministry of Law.

According to him, this affirmative policy is part of the government’s commitment to broaden access to education while improving the quality of Papua’s human resources, particularly in the field of law and public service.

Through this step, the Ministry of Law hopes that more young Papuans will have opportunities to develop, be empowered, and contribute to the development of the national legal system.” (reporting by prf/ega)
