Minister Reveals 1,500 Foreigners Apply for Indonesian Citizenship Annually

Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas has revealed that approximately 1,500 foreign nationals apply to become Indonesian citizens each year. “The highest number of applications from people wanting to register as citizens of the Republic of Indonesia is around 1,000 to 1,500 per year,” Supratman stated at the DPR Building in Central Jakarta. To qualify for citizenship, applicants must have resided in Indonesia for at least five consecutive years or ten non-consecutive years. The government has also stipulated various fees for naturalisation applications under Government Regulation Number 30 of 2026 concerning Types and Tariffs of Non-Tax State Revenue applicable to the Ministry of Law. The general naturalisation route carries a fee of Rp75 million, while naturalisation through marriage costs Rp25 million. Applications for children with dual citizenship are set at Rp2 million, and applications to regain Indonesian citizenship status cost Rp1 million. Furthermore, a request for a decree regarding loss of citizenship submitted to the President is charged at Rp5 million, while a request for a decree to retain Indonesian citizenship costs Rp1 million.
