Jakarta — Environment Minister Raja Juli Antoni has stated that he is prepared to accept the consequences if the government decides to reduce the salaries of officials as a cost-saving measure for the state amid global turmoil caused by conflicts in the Middle East.

He emphasised that he would follow the decision of President Prabowo Subianto should such a policy be deemed necessary for the nation’s interest.

“Yes, if that becomes a decision and is good for the nation, I think everyone should accept it, including myself,” said Raja Juli when met at the Gelora Bung Karno area in Jakarta on Saturday (14 March 2026).

The review includes several cost-saving policy options, including the possibility of reducing state official salaries and implementing remote work arrangements (work from anywhere) for one day per week.

“I think later the relevant coordinating ministers will review and conduct a study, and the results will be presented to the President,” he added.

He reiterated his readiness to accept any decision that would be made by the President.

“I, as the President’s assistant and as a minister, will follow and comply with the President’s decision,” he stressed.

Previously, President Prabowo highlighted the Pakistani government’s approach to reducing state spending amid global turmoil, including the effects of the conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States.

He considered the policy to be an example worth studying by Indonesia, particularly when global oil prices experience increases.

This was conveyed by Prabowo while leading a Full Cabinet Session at the State Palace on Friday (13 March 2026).

In the meeting, the government discussed mitigation measures to address the impact of the Middle Eastern conflict, which has driven an increase in global energy prices.

Prabowo also highlighted the austerity measures implemented by the Pakistani government, including salary cuts for high-ranking state officials.

“They have even reduced salaries for cabinet members and members of parliament,” said Prabowo.

The funds resulting from these savings are then redirected to help the most vulnerable groups in society.
