Minister: Rahmi Hatta's Centenary Proves Women's Empowerment for the Nation
Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Arifah Fauzi has stated that the centenary celebration of Indonesian Proclamator’s wife, Rahmi Hatta, is proof that women can contribute to the nation’s progress. “As the companion of the proclamator and first vice president of the Republic of Indonesia, Mohammad Hatta, she demonstrated that women have a strategic role in supporting national advancement, not only through formal positions but also through exemplary conduct, wisdom, and sincere dedication,” she said at the National Library Building in Jakarta on Wednesday. Arifah emphasised that the commemoration of Rahmi Hatta’s centenary is not merely about remembering the life journey of a figure, but also a momentum to reflect on the noble values bequeathed to the Indonesian nation. “In the course of the nation’s history, we have known many Indonesian women who have made significant contributions, both in the public sphere and through exemplary conduct in daily life. Ibu Rahmi Hatta is one of them. The greatest legacy she left behind is not just a historical footprint, but life values that remain relevant today,” she said. “These values are aligned with the direction of national development as outlined in the Astacita of the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, particularly in realising an advanced, just, prosperous, and competitive Indonesia through superior human resource development, strengthening family quality, empowering women, protecting children, and fostering inclusive and equitable development,” she added. She stressed that the success of national development is not only measured by economic growth, but also by the extent to which it delivers justice for all citizens, including women and children. “Therefore, a gender perspective and the fulfilment of children’s rights are inseparable parts of every development process,” Arifah concluded.
