Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that Indonesia’s inflation rate in June 2026 was mainly driven by increases in volatile goods. The primary factors were fuel prices and seasonal food commodities. Despite the rise, the minister is optimistic that inflationary pressures will subside in the coming months as global energy prices adjust. “It is seasonal. I believe that once oil prices fall, Pertamax prices will gradually decrease in line with global oil prices. So the pressure on inflation will soon diminish,” Purbaya said in Jakarta on Wednesday (1/7). Purbaya stressed that the current inflation spike is not caused by excessive public demand. This is evidenced by the core inflation figure, which remains at a moderate level. “Basically, we see core inflation at 2.76 percent. That is still relatively under control. So the increase is not because demand is too rapid, but due to volatile goods such as oil, fuel, and food,” he explained. According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), annual inflation in June 2026 was recorded at 3.34 percent, while monthly inflation stood at 0.44 percent. The transportation sector was the largest contributor to monthly inflation, rising 2.29 percent and contributing 0.28 percent to the national figure. Meanwhile, the food, beverage, and tobacco group experienced 0.20 percent inflation, contributing 0.06 percent. The most influential food commodities were shallots, garlic, and rice. Core inflation for the same period was recorded at 0.23 percent monthly and 2.76 percent annually, reinforcing the government’s argument that macroeconomic stability is maintained amid fluctuating global commodity prices.
