TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa provided explanations to potential investors in the United States to convince them of Indonesia’s macroeconomic conditions and national cash management strategies. These explanations were provided during several meetings with investors in New York and Washington DC.

Purbaya explained the current conditions to several major U.S. investors. “Basically, we explain our economic conditions and future fiscal strategies, so they believe that our fiscal movements or policies are heading in the right direction,” he said at the Peninsula Hotel New York, via an official statement sent on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

Several U.S. investors who had meetings with the Finance Minister on Monday, April 13, in New York, included HSBC Global Asset Management, Lazard AM, Blackrock, Lord Abbett, and TD Asset Management.

Purbaya said that the investors intend to invest in Indonesia. Therefore, he felt the need to provide explanations to dispel their doubts about Indonesia.

Purbaya explained that U.S. investors are not skeptical of the government’s fundamental macroeconomic policies. However, they want to ensure the current conditions regarding investment comfort.

“So they (the investors) are not doubtful, they just heard some noise that our fiscal situation is problematic, they want to make sure that it is not true,” Purbaya said.

Purbaya is quite confident that the investors can accept his explanations about Indonesia’s fundamental conditions. “They can wholeheartedly accept what we explain is in line with economic theories,” he said.

The Finance Minister also received positive feedback for the Indonesian government to improve communication with U.S. investors. Purbaya also claimed that the investors believed that international rating agencies were too quick to change Indonesia’s ratings. For example, he said the changes were made when the latest economic data was incomplete, providing a negative outlook.

He also explained the government’s strategy for inspiring investor confidence in Indonesia: economic growth must align with state budget targets. “So we focus on ensuring that our policies are right, and their implementation is in line with the designs we have made,” said Purbaya.
