“The key lesson here is that the success of AI is determined not just by its sophistication, but by our ability to manage data securely, ethically, and responsibly,” she said at the BRAVO 500 Summit 2026 in Jakarta on Thursday.

She noted that while Indonesians are highly adaptive to AI technology, concerns over its negative impacts remain a frequent topic of discussion.

To ensure the industry prioritizes security in AI development, the government is working to establish a legal framework to govern AI implementation across the country.

“An innovation must be built around frameworks that prioritize public safety,” she stressed.

According to her, there are four primary foundations used by the Indonesian government in drafting AI governance regulations.

These include transparent digital governance, reliable digital infrastructure, secure and integrated data management, and the development of a competitive digital talent pool.

The minister highlighted that these four pillars are prerequisites for ethical and effective AI utilization.

By ensuring AI is safe for the public, the technology is expected to not only drive economic growth but also foster social progress.

“We support AI growth, not merely as a technological innovation but also as a foundation for economic growth, the improvement of public services, and sustainable social progress,” Meutya remarked.
