Minister Prepares Masterplan for Reconstruction of Sade Traditional Houses
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana is preparing a masterplan for the reconstruction of 75 traditional houses and 69 art shops in Sade Traditional Village, Rembitan Village, Pujut District, Central Lombok, which were completely destroyed by fire on Saturday night (22/8/2026).
The masterplan is being developed together with the West Nusa Tenggara provincial government and is targeted to become a pilot project for other traditional villages in Indonesia that are vulnerable to disasters or fires.
“This masterplan must become a pilot project for other traditional villages that are prone to disasters, showing how existing technology can be applied so that there is safety infrastructure,” said Widiyanti after a meeting on reconstruction efforts for Sade Traditional Village at Poltekpar Lombok on Thursday evening (27/8/2026).
Widiyanti said the basic needs of affected residents, such as food supplies, have now been met. The government is now beginning to direct its handling towards restoring the standard of living and economic activity of the Sade community.
“We will focus on the medium and long term. How the people of Sade Village can return to active work, mothers can start weaving again, and children can also go back to school,” she said.
Widiyanti asked the regional government to form a special working team to record the number of workers and affected residents. A centralised donation collection point will also be established so that incoming aid can be managed transparently and in a targeted manner.
“So the essence is that we will accelerate, with the aim of rebuilding Sade Village to be better,” she stressed.
Widiyanti said reconstruction funding will involve various parties. In addition to the regional government, the government will engage the private sector, donor agencies, and the general public through fundraising schemes.
“We are concerned, and hopefully the efforts and collaboration after we work together — all parties in the tourism ecosystem, central government, regional government, and also the private sector — can jointly build Sade,” she said.
Meanwhile, West Nusa Tenggara Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal affirmed that emergency humanitarian handling in Sade Traditional Village has been carried out by the Central Lombok regency government and the provincial government.
“So today, initiated by the Tourism Minister, marks the starting point for laying the long-term foundation. Sade is not merely a place to live, but what we will reconstruct is the history, civilisation, and hopes of the people there, but with a better version than before,” Iqbal asserted.
The former Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey said the acceleration of reconstruction will be accompanied by the provision of safety and sustainability support facilities so that Sade Traditional Village becomes a safer and more resilient destination.
