Minister Pigai Requests Additional Rp492 Billion Budget, What For?

The Minister of Human Rights, Natalius Pigai, has proposed an additional budget of Rp492.9 billion for the 2027 fiscal year.

Pigai assessed that the indicative ceiling of Rp728,129,471,000 provided by the Ministry of Finance for the Ministry of Human Rights is insufficient. This shortage is the primary reason for his request for additional funding.

“For that reason, we are submitting a request for an increase of Rp492,900,370,000 to the House of Representatives (DPR),” Pigai stated during a meeting with Commission XIII of the DPR at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 17 June 2026.

Pigai explained that the request for additional funds is due to the recent recruitment of 500 individuals to serve as human rights mobilisers.

“This year, we have recruited 500 people. Automatically, although we have recruited these 500 people, the Ministry of Finance has not allocated funds for them within the indicative ceiling,” he said.

If approved, Pigai stated that the budget would be allocated as Rp267.9 billion for management support and over Rp224.9 billion for the advancement and enforcement of human rights.

The management support programme includes salaries and allowances for the 500 new employees at the Ministry of Human Rights.

“Why a management support programme? Because we have already shifted previous management support funds to provide salaries and allowances for the 500 new employees, so this is a further, albeit partial, addition. However, the final decision rests with all of you,” Pigai concluded.
