Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) Rini Widyantini has stated that strengthening the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) institutionally is key to accelerating national research and innovation. Rini said that an adaptive, effective organisational arrangement aligned with statutory provisions is essential to strengthen the national research ecosystem while supporting the achievement of a development agenda based on science, technology, and innovation. “Organisational structuring is not merely about changing the structure, but ensuring every function runs optimally, complements each other, and is able to respond to national research and innovation, as well as producing an organisation that is increasingly effective, adaptive, and collaborative,” Rini said, as quoted from a written statement. She made the remarks while receiving a visit from BRIN Head Arif Satria at the Ministry of PANRB building in Jakarta on Tuesday. She expressed hope that the organisational structuring would accelerate the creation of a research and innovation ecosystem that supports national competitiveness and development. The institutional strengthening of BRIN needs to be directed towards improving organisational effectiveness, including strengthening the functions of research, innovation, space, and nuclear technology in an integrated manner. During the meeting, Rini also stressed that every organisational structuring must adhere to statutory regulations and avoid overlapping duties and functions between organisational units. “We need to ensure that every organisational change has a strong basis, is aligned with regulations, and provides clarity on the division of tasks and authority. This way, the organisation can work more nimbly and deliver a real impact on national development,” she said. The Ministry of PANRB in principle supports various proposals for BRIN’s organisational structuring, including the formation of new units, changes in nomenclature, and adjustments to duties and functions. However, these proposals still require further refinement of substance and discussion to ensure the organisational design remains consistent and provides added value for the implementation of national research and innovation. “Strong collaboration between the Ministry of PANRB and BRIN is key to building modern, effective, and sustainable governance for research institutions. With the right organisation and supported by the best talent, we are optimistic that research and innovation will increasingly contribute to realising an advanced and competitive Indonesia,” Rini said.
