Minister P2MI Confirms Indonesian Domestic Worker Abused in Malaysia Is in Safe Condition

Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) Mukhtarudin is overseeing the case of a female worker with the initials YY who was abused by her employer in Malaysia. Mukhtarudin stated that YY has now been placed in temporary accommodation.

Mukhtarudin explained that the case initially came to light after YY reported to the KJRI Johor. YY said at the time that she and two other Indonesian nationals, YA and SH, had experienced abuse while working as domestic helpers in Johor Bahru.

“Based on information from the Representative of the Republic of Indonesia in Johor Bahru, this case was uncovered after a PMI with the initials YY reported alleged physical violence she experienced to the KSATRIA service of KJRI Johor Bahru on 13 June 2026. In her report, YY also stated that two other PMIs, namely YA and SH, allegedly experienced similar treatment while working as domestic helpers in Johor Bahru,” Mukhtarudin told reporters on Monday (15/6/2026).

Still according to YY’s report, the domestic helpers experienced violence while working from late 2025 to January 2026. The workers, she said, were abandoned by the employer after the incident.

“Based on the information received, the PMIs frequently experienced violent treatment during their employment. One of the assault incidents was reported to have occurred in late 2025 to January 2026. After the incident, the victims were abandoned by the employer in the Kampung Melayu Majidee area, Johor,” Mukhtarudin said.

Mukhtarudin noted that the three Indonesian nationals were working in Malaysia non-procedurally and did not have valid work permits. One of the victims, Mukhtarudin said, then decided to seek help from the Indonesian representative.

“The three PMIs were known to be working in Malaysia non-procedurally and did not possess valid work permits. Their passports were also still held by the employer, so the victims felt afraid to report the incident to the authorities. However, because they still felt their safety was threatened, one of the victims finally decided to seek help from the Indonesian Representative,” he stated.

Mukhtarudin revealed that four people have been arrested in connection with this case. Currently, two Indonesian victims of the abuse have been placed in temporary accommodation.

“Based on information received from local authorities, the Larkin District Police Headquarters (IPD) has detained four individuals suspected of being linked to the case for further investigation,” he said.

“Currently, two victims are under the protection of KJRI Johor Bahru and have been placed in a Temporary Shelter (TTS) to receive further assistance,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Mukhtarudin said, efforts to pick up one other victim located in Kuala Lumpur are also ongoing. The Indonesian Representative will also facilitate the reporting process to the police and provide legal assistance.

“KP2MI appreciates the swift action taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, KJRI Johor Bahru, and KBRI Kuala Lumpur in providing protection to the victims. KP2MI will continue to monitor the development of this case and ensure all victims receive the necessary assistance and protection until the handling process is completed,” Mukhtarudin stated.

YY was reported to have been abused by her employer in Malaysia. Malaysian police arrested four people who abused YY.

From a circulating video seen on Sunday (14/6), a woman sitting on a sofa was seen being beaten by a man in a blue shirt. The woman groaned in pain and did not fight back at all.

In the next scene, another woman struck the victim on the head, while another woman recorded the violent act.

Besides being beaten, the victim was also pulled by the hair. The perpetrators repeatedly targeted the victim’s head.

Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens Abroad, Heni Hamidah, spoke out regarding the abuse case. Heni confirmed that the abused woman is an Indonesian citizen working in Malaysia.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, KJRI Johor Bahru, and KBRI Kuala Lumpur are currently providing assistance to an Indonesian national with the initials YY who reported alleged acts of abuse committed by the employer and an associate in Malaysia,” said Director Heni Hamidah to reporters.

The report was received by KJRI Johor Bahru through the Ksatria application on 13 June 2026. KJRI Johor Bahru immediately coordinated with the local police so that the case could be promptly followed up.

“On the evening of 13 June, local police reportedly detained four individuals suspected of being involved in the incident, consisting of two women and two men. All four have undergone initial examination, and the investigation process will continue,” Heni said.
