Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti has stated there are four approaches being implemented to realise inclusive education for children with special needs across the country. “The government is committed to expanding and providing the widest possible access to all children, including those with special needs, as well as creating a learning ecosystem that is friendly, fair, and non-discriminatory,” said Abdul Mu’ti in Banda Aceh on Tuesday. Speaking at the inauguration of the revitalisation of educational units across Banda Aceh City at SLB YPPC Banda Aceh, he explained the four approaches to be applied: inclusive education, special needs school services, community-based services, and family-based services. “The government is committed to realising education for all in accordance with the National Education System Law,” he said. According to him, these four approaches will provide broader access for children with special needs in the country’s frontier, outermost, and least developed regions to receive the best education. “This inclusive education will certainly foster enthusiasm and confidence among children with special needs, enabling them to develop their interests and potential to become a hope for the nation and state,” he said. The government will also continue to increase the number of Special Schools to open greater access for children with special needs nationwide to attend school properly. He acknowledged challenges on the ground, as some families and communities have not yet accepted children with special needs, with some still believing it to be a curse. “As Muslims, we believe that every human being created by Allah is in a perfect state and all are glorified by Allah with all their advantages,” he said. His ministry is committed to improving and increasing access and realising quality education for all, as mandated by the National Education System Law.
