Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Maman Abdurrahman has said that the Presidential Regulation concerning online motorcycle taxi drivers only requires the completion of a few articles before it is released.

“In the near future, God willing within this week, we will complete the Presidential Regulation regarding the online transport ecosystem, which perhaps only has one or two articles left that we need to finalise,” Maman said during the online launch of Grab Academy on Tuesday (11/8/2026).

He expressed hope that the Presidential Regulation would represent a positive step by the government to provide opportunities for the online transport ecosystem. In this way, it can continue to grow and remain sustainable, as well as deliver economic benefits to all parties.

The new regulation will also ensure that the ecosystem remains healthy.

Furthermore, Maman said that drivers will be treated as micro-entrepreneurs. He considers this measure beneficial and capable of enabling online motorcycle taxi drivers to progress further in the future.

“Based on the direction of the President, he always entrusts us to find ways to help our online motorcycle taxi friends advance further in the future and not merely carry out business activities in online motorcycle taxis alone, but also to gain opportunities to open businesses in other sectors,” he said.

The regulation is expected to be completed and enacted within this week.

Chief of Public Affairs at Grab Indonesia, Tirza Munusamy, said the company welcomes the regulation currently being drafted, as its spirit is to protect and support partners so they can move up to the next level.

“We also welcome the spirit of the regulation being drafted. Because its main purpose is how to protect and support driver partners so they can move up to the next level,” Tirza said.
