Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection asserts that violence against children is a serious violation

Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifatul Choiri Fauzi, has asserted that violence against children is a serious violation that cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.

“The Ministry of PPPA asserts that every form of violence against children is a serious violation of children’s rights and cannot be tolerated in any situation,” said Minister Arifah at the Yogyakarta City Police Headquarters on Monday.

Therefore, she said, the Ministry of PPPA conveys its deepest concern over the case of violence against children that occurred at one of the daycares or childminding facilities in Yogyakarta City.

Nevertheless, the Ministry appreciates the swift actions taken by the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Regional Government, law enforcement agencies, and all parties in responding to the daycare violence case, including the investigation process, securing the location, and providing support services for the victims.

“The current top priority is to ensure that the legal process runs firmly, transparently, and justly, with all victims receiving protection as well as comprehensive psychological and legal support,” she stated.

Minister Arifah also requested a thorough investigation into the violence case at the daycare institution to ensure that no other victims are overlooked.

“This case serves as an important reminder that the oversight system for child care services, particularly daycares, still needs to be strengthened. The discovery of an institution that does not meet licensing and standards aspects indicates gaps that must be addressed immediately together,” she said.

In addition, the Ministry of PPPA urges all regional governments to conduct comprehensive data collection and evaluation of all daycare services, ensuring compliance with standards and licensing.

“And to enhance the quality of childcare human resources through training and certification. The public is urged to be more selective in choosing child care services and not hesitate to report if they find indications of violence,” she said.

The Minister of PPPA stated that child protection is a shared responsibility.

“The state must be present, society must care, and all parties must ensure that every child grows up in safe protection, free from violence, and full of love and affection,” she said.
