Minister of Transport: Peak of Homecoming Rush at Merak Port Occurs Tonight
The Minister of Transport (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the peak of the homecoming rush at Merak Port is occurring this evening. Port authorities have been reported to be deploying numerous vessels to transport holiday travellers.
According to detikcom monitoring, on Wednesday, 18 March 2026 in the early hours, the situation at Merak Port continued to be crowded with private vehicles and buses. Vehicles from the Tangerang-Merak toll road continued to arrive and fill regular and executive parking areas at the terminal.
“You can observe that, as we predicted on the 18th of March, the peak of Lebaran transportation services will occur,” said Dudy at Merak Port.
Dudy stated that traffic flow along the entire route to Merak Port is currently running smoothly. According to him, this is because each relevant agency has conducted coordination in anticipating the situation.
“Nonetheless, you can see that throughout the journey, thanks to very good coordination with Korlantas and the Banten Police, members of the public heading towards Merak can travel smoothly,” he said.
According to him, port authorities have already prepared numerous vessels to transport holiday travellers to Sumatra. Dudy stated that vehicles crowding the port terminal are currently waiting for their turn to board the vessels.
“God willing, nothing occurs on the road and once arriving here at Merak Port, vessels have been prepared by us so that the queuing that occurs is not congested. This is not actually a queue; they are waiting to board the vessel,” he said.
