Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar visited the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) office on Monday morning (23 February) to report a private jet facility provided by businessman and politician Oesman Sapta Odang (OSO).

The private jet in question was used for the inauguration of the Balai Sarkiah Building in Takalar Regency on Sunday, 15 February 2026.

“Today the KPK received a gratification report from the Minister of Religious Affairs who is here with us. This early gratification reporting sets a positive example for every state official to report any receipt as a form of early mitigation,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the Anti-Corruption Education Centre, South Jakarta, on Monday (23 February).

On the occasion, Nasaruddin explained his trip to South Sulawesi was undertaken in the course of official duties. He confirmed accepting the private jet facility.

“Because at 11 o’clock there were no more flights there, and I had to return the next morning as there were preparations for the isbat session. So I came here [to the KPK office] to report this matter,” he said.

Nasaruddin stated that this was a demonstration of his good faith in reporting something that could potentially be considered gratification. He said he wished to set a positive example for his subordinates at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

“It has gone smoothly, and that is my resolve. I want to set an example for our subordinates, our staff at every level beneath us,” Nasaruddin said.

“And for other state officials, hopefully this can serve as a lesson for everyone else,” he added.

Previously, Nasaruddin Umar accepted a private jet facility from Oesman Sapta Odang (OSO) when inaugurating the Balai Sarkiah Building in Takalar Regency on Sunday, 15 February 2026. Nasaruddin’s attendance was at OSO’s direct invitation.

The Balai Sarkiah Building, located in Sabintang Sub-district, is projected to become a new epicentre for religious and social activities in South Sulawesi, serving as a centre for community empowerment.

Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) assessed that the private jet facility received by Nasaruddin potentially falls under the category of gratification.

ICW Investigation Staff member Zararah Azhim Syah explained that Article 12 paragraph B subsections (1) and (2) of the Anti-Corruption Law affirm that any state official who receives gratification valued at Rp10 million or more, and cannot prove that the gratification does not constitute a bribe, may be sentenced to a minimum of four years and a maximum of life imprisonment.

As a state official, he stated, Nasaruddin should have refused any form of gift that clearly contravenes the law, particularly when such a gift originates from a political figure who could potentially create a conflict of interest in the future.

“The acceptance of a private jet facility by the Minister of Religious Affairs also potentially fulfils the elements of a corruption offence as regulated under Law Number 20 of 2001 on the Eradication of Corruption concerning gratification provisions,” Azhim said in a written statement on Thursday (19 February).

Although there are exceptions that exempt state officials from the obligation to report the receipt of certain goods or services as gratification, the regulations still set strict limits on the types of goods and services that may be accepted.

Azhim noted that Article 2 subsection (3) paragraph j of KPK Regulation Number 1 of 2026 does allow state officials to accept transportation and accommodation facilities. However, this provision is not absolute and is subject to a number of cumulative requirements.
