Minister of Religious Affairs: UIN Medical Study Programme Aligns with National Development Agenda

Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, stated that the opening of the Medical and Doctor Profession Study Programme at the State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta aligns with the national development agenda. “Health is one of the President’s national development priorities,” said Nasaruddin Umar following the inauguration of the Faculty of Medicine building at UIN Sunan Kalijaga in Yogyakarta on Thursday.

Furthermore, he noted that the medical faculty at Indonesia’s oldest state Islamic university supports programmes to accelerate the reduction of stunting rates and improve the quality of Indonesian human resources. “Therefore, the presence of the Faculty of Medicine is expected to increase public awareness regarding the importance of health while simultaneously strengthening the quality of Indonesia’s human resources,” he said.

The Minister of Religious Affairs believes that UIN medical graduates will possess a unique advantage, as they are trained in an academic environment that integrates scientific knowledge with Islamic values. The presence of faculties developing studies in Islamic studies, law, education, language, science, technology, and medicine serves as essential capital for building a comprehensive academic ecosystem.

With these strengths, the Minister is optimistic that UIN Yogyakarta can evolve into an epicentre for the development of science and modern Islamic civilisation, providing widespread benefits to society. “This campus has great potential to become a centre for the integration of knowledge, producing the future generations required by the community, the nation, and the state,” he concluded.
